The Martingale System Debunked

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

The Martingale has been around since the 18th century and was immensely popular at the time in the casinos of France. The Martingale system is a method of betting that can be applied to any event or game that offers even money outcomes. In theory it is the perfect gambling method that will allow you to steadily make a profit and steady, regular increments. However the reality of the Martingale system is that casinos became aware of it a long time ago and put things in place to ensure that you will only ever win in the short term and when you lose you will lose big, due to the exponential level of betting. To be 100% successful in the martingale system you need two things, an endless amount of time and an infinite level of maoney – neither can be had by the regular gambler visiting a casino. For more explanations of systems applied in roulette look here roulette strategy

For this article I will use the example of the game of roulette, with the even money bets being those of betting on red or black.

First you chose your colour (however this really matters little). You then stake the smallest amount you can on that colour, this is usually a chip of 1 unit. If you win then you will be paid out at 2:1 and would have doubled your money – made a profit of 1 unit. If you lose then you take 2 units and place them on your chosen colour. If you win then, by doubling your original stake, you would have recovered what you have lost AND made a profit of 1 unit. If you lose then you double your stake again, this time to four units, and again bet on your chosen colour. The system, as you can see is very easy – If you lose double your bet and bet again, if you win and you make a profit of one unit then return to betting the smallest amount that you can again. Each time you run through this process you will make a profit of one unit. This doesn’t sound like much but you can carry out this system many times in a short space of time and turn a good profit in less than 30 minutes.

So why doesn’t it work? There is one main reason why this system is not advisable and can mean big loses and that is ‘table limits’. When playing roulette at any casino there will be a table minimum bet and a table maximum bet. With the exponential nature of this system you will reach the maximum table limits in a reasonably short space of time and thus will be prevented from continuing to double your bet. For example if the table minimum is $1 and the table maximum is $200 then you betting might look like this

$1 lose
$2 lose
$4 lose
$8 lose
$16 lose
$32 lose
$64 lose
$128 lose

You only need to lose 7 times in a row (something that can and does happen) and you will be making your final bet of $124 for a measly profit of $1! If this comes out at a loss then you are prevented, by the maximum table limit from doubling your bet and recouping what you have lost.

In short the Martingale system does not work. You might well be able to turn a small profit in the short term but in the long term the casino will always come out on top and will always take your money. For alternatives to the Martingale system look here online roulette strategy

A Method To Crackwin At Online Roulette

Friday, May 14th, 2010

This method can be very effective and has the potential to pay off in a short space of time. It works by locking in what you have already won and ensuring that bets cover what you have lost, thus providing an all round strategy that will be effective the vast majority of the time.

First observe the layout of the roulette wheel and the betting table. You will see the bets are divided into three columns. If the ball lands on a number in one of these columns the payout is 2-1, the chances of the ball actually landing on one of these columns is 3/37. This strategy will only work in online casinos as it works on basis that the random number generators used by online roulette casinos aren’t in fact completely random. They simply need to look random and as such the numbers will be distributed across the board and really random ‘runs’ in specific areas of the board are a lot more unlikely.

To try this system for free you can use the roulette wheel here roulette strategy

First give the roulette wheel a spin without betting and take note of where the ball lands (if you can’t spin without betting then simply bet one unit on red and one on black). Now take take the smallest chip you have and bet on the two sections that the ball did NOT land in. I would always suggest betting the lowest amount you can. Spin the wheel again and notice where the ball lands again. If it lands on one of your columns then take your winnings and look at the profit you have made. If you did not win you need to triple you bet on each column (this is why you need to start with a low amounts) and bet again on the column that the ball did not land on. Continue this strategy until you win again. It won’t take long and you would have made a profit equivalent to the size of your single stake. If this is 1 unit then you will make a profit of 1 unit every time you win. If you win 10 times in 20 minutes then that is a profit of 10 units.

The statistics of the ball landing in one of the two columns you have bet on is 6/37 therefore the odds of the ball NOT landing in a column you have bet on is 3/37 – The odds are in your favour. The odds of a ball not landing in a column you have bet on 2 times in a row is 3/37 x 3/37 which is extremely small.

This strategy, like any system in the casino, is by no means fool proof. However as you can see it does move the odds back towards your favour and, if you bet correctly, this can really me used to your advantage you maximise your profits.

Reducing The House Edge In Roulette

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Roulette is one of the most famous games in the casino. It is very popular due mainly to the fact that it is so simple to play and understand. However, this is also one of the biggest ploys of the casino – despite being so easy to play it actually offers some of the lowest odds in the casino. Below is some advice to take with you next time you visit a casino. If you are interested in learning more about roulette then look here online roulette strategy.

When you are working out your roulette method it is always advisable to look out for the surrender option. This is different to the surrender option in blackjack. It can be applied to the 1:1 outcomes, or outside bets, such as odd and even. The surrender rule works like this – if the roulette ball lands in either the 0 (or the 00 if you are playing American roulette) then you only lose half of your original bet rather than the everything. As I said earlier roulette has some of the worst odds in the casino but this option significantly reduces the house edge as it is the green zeros that give the casino an edge in the first place. Obviously the payoffs are low for the outside bets but a little bit of something is better than a lot of nothing!

The 0 and the 00 are the most important part of the roulette wheel in terms of determining the house edge and offer you a simple way to up your odds straight off the bat. It is the zeros that give the house the edge as the payouts the casino gives only reflect the 36 numbers on the roulette wheel – for example a single number pays 36/1 and odd or even pays 1:1. This are not the real life odds as there are actually more than 36 sections in the roulette wheel and a less than 50% chance of hitting one colour or another. It is therefore a really good idea to find a European roulette table as these only have one 0, American roulette has two 0s and therefore the house edge is a lot bigger. The difference in roulette wheels can reduce the house edge from 5.26% to 2.7% – quite a substantially difference.

When using a land based casino you will (obviously) be more likely to find a European roulette table in Europe however when playing online any casino worth its salt will have a European roulette table. Something else to look for when playing roulette is the option of playing with En Prison rules. This is an option that comes into play when the ball lands on a zero and you have made an outside bet (even money, red/black etc.). In this instance you will not instantly lose your money, instead the ball is held ‘en prison’. The roulette wheel spun once again – if your previous bet comes in the your money is returned but with no winnings. If you lose then the money is lost. If it is a zero again then it is still ‘en prison’

2 Effective Roulette Systems

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Roulette is one of the most played casino games. It dates back hundreds of years. Over this time a multitudeof betting strategies have arisen with various levels of success and although roulette has reasonably poor odds compared to some casino games people still insist in betting their money on this spinning wheel. Here are two of the best methods there is. If you are interested in further online roulette strategy then look here.

As with all systems set yourself a win limit as well as a loss limit and make sure you stick to it, never play with money you can’t afford to lose.

The D’Almbert System

D’Almbert was a 17th century mathematician who devised a method for betting on even money outcomes (50/50 – red or black, odd or even). Although in real life the even money payouts don’t actually offer 50/50 odds this strategy can still be used for these types of bets. The system works by looking at whether you have just won or not and placing your next bet accordingly. This isn’t because the system believes that one outcome can influence the next (this is called the gamblers fallacy and you should make sure that you don’t succumb to this). It is because it is the amount you wager will either attempt to ‘lock in’ what you have already won or ‘recover’ what you have lost. The system is simple – Place a low bet of 1 unit on red or black. If you lose add 1 unit and bet again. If you lose again, add one unit and bet again. Continue this method until you win. When you win reduce your next bet by 1 unit (locking in what you have won), if you win again, reduce by one more unit. Keep this run going, moving your stake up and down until you reach your limit.

The 3 Section System

This is a method for online casinos and works on the idea that the random number generators used will spread their numbers evenly, across the numbers over a period of time and that real random ‘runs’ on sections of the table are a lot less uncommon in the online version. If you look at a roulette table you will see that the bets are divided into 3 sections 1-12, 13-24, 25-36. When you spin the wheel make a note each time of where the ball lands. It is best to mark down where the ball lands with a pen and some paper. After a while you will realise that the ball has not landed in a certain third of the table. Once the ball has not landed in one third for 7 spins in a row you should put your bet in this section. The key to this method is how much to bet. The probability of this kind of section betting are 2:1 so you have to bet to take this into account. Bet as follows –

Spin 8 — £1

Spin 9 — £2

Spin 10 — £3

Spin 11 — £4

Spin 12 — £6

Spin 13 — £9

Spin 14 — £13

Spin 15 — £20

Spin 16 — £30

Spin 17 — £45

Spin 18 — £67

Spin 19 — £100

Whenever the ball lands in your section and you win, you should return to betting the smallest amount you can and remember to continue to take note of where the ball is landing whilst you are betting. This method can be pretty time consuming but I have found it to be quite effective over the years.
