There are several kinds of Texas holdem betting structures, the most common of which are limit and no limits. In limit Texas holdem poker, there is a certain cap or ceiling as to how much you can bet or raise in any given round. As the name suggests, there are no limits placed on how much you can bet or raise in no limits Texas holdem poker. Some refer to this as high stakes poker because you can bet or raise the pot with as much chips as you have on the table.
Spread limit Texas holdem poker is quite similar to limit Texas holdem poker. In spread limit, there is a given range as to how much players can bet or raise. For example, in a $5-$10 spread limit game, bets and raises can be anywhere from as small as $5 and as large as $10. There is also the pot limit wherein the size of the pot determines the maximum bets or raises that players can make.
Of all these betting structures, it is not recommended for beginners to play no limits Texas holdem poker games or those that observe a pot limit. In these two betting structures, the stakes can rise up so quickly that beginners might end up losing a good chunk of chips early in the game.
Before you sit down in any poker table, try to ask for the betting structure. In this way, you will keep yourself from being surprised by the Texas holdem betting structures, and have more chances of winning the pot.
